Pelican Island

We went over to Pelican Island yesterday where Mike had a close encounter with a brown pelican.  There's not a whole lot else over there except for a small park where there is a fishing pier, picnic facilites, and a submarine and another WWII era ship that you can tour.  Also, the Texas A&M, Galveston campus is there.  It houses the Texas Maritime Academy and oceanographic studies and well as other things.  It's also a good place to just sit and watch the birds, the ferries, and the ships going up the ship channel.

Day trip to the city

We took a day trip, a tour of Acapulco, with a taxi driver, Ricardo, who is a cousin of Willie from the Grand Mayan.  It was nice to be on a tour by ourselves so that we didn't have to wait for other people or hurry up because of other people.  Ricardo was very nice.  The pictures are from the Chapel of Peace, the Johnny Weissmueller house (Mike and Ricardo), the cliff divers and the museum which had been a fort.
